Cancer is studied in oncology. An oncologist is a doctor who treats cancer and provides medical care to cancer patients. An oncologist is also known as a cancer specialist. Oncology is divided into three major treatment areas: medical oncology, radiation oncology, and surgical oncology. Oncologists inmedicine : Cancer is treated with medications such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy. Oncologists who useradiation : Radiation therapy, which involves the use of high-energy x-rays or other particles to destroy cancer cells, is used to treat cancer.
